The L2M range of lip seals leads the industry in its speed & misalignment capabilities. Their unique finger garter spring design results in a highly sensitive lip permitting speeds well in excess of 20 m/sec. plus up to 3.0 mm misalignment. Uniquely:
Lip interference is varied to give constant contact stress. Can also be changed to suit rotating seal application. The lip is highly reactive to misalignment & shock loads plus shaft movement due to excessive internal bearing clearance. Machined metal case and moulded lip prevents leakage via seal & need for o-ring in housing bore. Over 500 standard sizes available from 155 to 1400 mm bore plus various derivatives. We welcome enquiries for new sizes. Readily available in various elastomers giving –60 to +200ºC operating temperature range. Where max. life and reliability are required or severe environments exist PTFE can be added to the lip elastomer. Added dust lips or high-pressure versions can be supplied. At speeds in excess of 25 m/sec special lubrication systems may be required whilst at speeds above 30 m/sec a PTFE liner may be necessary. For high speed rotating seal applications or ultra high-speed applications type L2M-TE seals may be required.
L2M seals have operated for many years in paper machines produced by both Valmet (Metso) and Voith paper at shaft speeds well in excess of 20 m/sec (stationary seal). If that were not enough many are simultaneously subjected to high misalignment, often as high as 2.5mm. No other elastomeric lip seal design can tolerate such conditions. Speeds continue to increase and the next generation of machines will have lip speeds in excess of 30m/sec.
L2M seals are also fitted to many of the world’s high-speed steel and aluminum rolling mills. These include the new Lawson Mardon foil mill where the work/backup roll seals will operate at 22 and 29m/sec. Similarly the five stand mills recently built by Danieli United Buttrio for Jennan in Korea and the Voest Linz Bethleham Steels Sparrows Point mill are fitted with them on work/backup and work rolls respectively. Even the worlds fastest foil mill the VAW Grevenbroich operating at 2700m/min is fitted with them on all rolls.
Advanced Sealing Solutions has successfully applied L2M seals to semi-static applications subject to high misalignment and shock in the severest of environments.

For seal sizes below 155 mm designs the L1M can be supplied as well as PTFE seals.
Fabric reinforced split or continuous seals can operate at up to 20 m/sec and generally do not accommodate as much misalignment as the L2M. High flex versions can be supplied however.
